Stunning. I am so grateful to have had our time teaching together. I learned so much from you and carried my knowledge of movement and dance into the general classroom the rest of my career, as well as the years I spent teaching drama. I am hoping to get a drama summer camp going this summer and of course we'll be doing creative movement! You are an inspiration to me.
As always, your beautifully crafted writing evokes so many emotions, some right at the surface, and some buried deep. Continue to make your days dance!
Meg! This is such a beautiful story. Clearly, you had a powerful and very positive effect on the lives of many, many children. And, although it naturally goes with the territory of teaching and helping others, you'll not be able to know how much you actually helped each of them with their lives as they grow up--or the profound effect you've undoubtedly had on some of those young and vulnerable souls as they go on with their lives. You cared enough to see them struggling to find themselves as individuals, , and helped each to better understand who they are and discover their own path that each of us has to find. What kind of help can be more valuable to a child than that?! (Yes, really--I don't mean that as fatuous or insincere praise!) Your description of each child who was memorable to you is so clear. As I read this, I felt like you'd given me the opportunity to be there, watching you work with them! I can feel--or at least resonate to!--your sadness upon leaving this part of your life behind you. You gave that piece of your life, the gift you have as a teacher, your heart, to help those kids, and God love you for your skill, compassion, kindness, and generosity.
Make your days dance! What a beautiful take away from your piece that evoked memories of mine, reaching out to young people. And the tears that accompanied me as I read remind me to make our world meaningful, our lives important. Thank you for your heart, Meg.
I taught at the same school as Meg, and am also retired. Her words brought back so many poignant memories of the impact Meg’s work as a dance teacher had on the students she taught. I wept in joy for the beauty of her gift to their education.
Yes, I would not have made it going back to teaching after so long out of the classroom without support from those of you with whom I had such rapport. Together we were better.
Thank you Meg. I believe you had a gift in the 70’s when I learned snd danced as your adult student. You have to us what you later gave to children. I remember my toddler son moving across the floor during class. All were welcome, all dancing freely❤️
Brava!!! Moved and inspired by your experience and the way you weave special moments into the bigger tapestry of a career and a calling. Lucky for all of us you have more than one calling.
Amazing, beautiful story of an incredible work of art. Would you share this on our class FB page?
Thanks for the suggestion! I think I did.
And thanks for reading!

I used to think of my job as "having died and gone to heaven!" I was blessed to be there.

Thanks for reading, Ann! And for your words!
My work was totally dependent on the staff surrounding and supporting me there!
We had a time & a rhythm that was special...
Such a rich reflection on your career & the children who changed you and who you changed. Congratulations, Meg!
