Almost ten years ago, I retired after a year of losses—my mother had died, my fourth lumbar vertebrae quit dancing, and I gave up the job I loved.
The ensuing years have been filled with revelations—about how like my mother I was, about what I found in dance, and how retirement is a chance for change.
Along the way, I wrote a short piece about the day I left my teaching life. It found a beautiful home this week in the spring issue of The Baltimore Review.
I hope you’ll check it out and then browse The Baltimore Review.
Amazing, beautiful story of an incredible work of art. Would you share this on our class FB page?
Stunning. I am so grateful to have had our time teaching together. I learned so much from you and carried my knowledge of movement and dance into the general classroom the rest of my career, as well as the years I spent teaching drama. I am hoping to get a drama summer camp going this summer and of course we'll be doing creative movement! You are an inspiration to me.
